The ASHRAE Student Chapter has been hard at work this year recruiting new members on campus. The picture above shows student group and local chapter members on campus helping recruit at a freshman in engineering seminar. We expect great things this year and can’t wait to for the lecture series to start which is all done through the volunteer efforts of our local chapter. If you have any interest in helping volunteer to give lectures or help the student chapter in any way please reach out to Scott Hacker scott.hacker@irco.com

The cost will be $10.00, and it will cover burgers and dogs. It will not cover burps and beers. This will be a joint event with the YEA-Compatible Construction Leadership Council.

Chapters Regional Conference
Our chapter was well represented at the Region VII Chapters Regional Conference this July. The conference was held in New Orleans, and twelve members of our Chapter were in attendance.
Activities included a technical seminar, a welcome party at Pat O’Bryan’s on Bourbon Street, committee workshops, and of course, lengthy business meetings. Most of us found a way to enjoy some time in the French Quarter during breaks.
The Awards Luncheon was very rewarding for the East Tennessee Chapter. Scott Hacker and Andrew Bosse received a first place award for student activities, as did Wayne Doane for research promotion. Wayne also received a Full Circle Chevron for research, and an Endowment Chevron for research. Nancy McBee received a first place award for increasing on-line transactions, and a second place award for membership promotion. Tom Werkema received a first place technology award for his highly energy-efficient home.
Finally, 2012/2013 President Bill Jacoby received the Presidential Award of Excellence for our Chapter, with "Special Citation" and the "Star" Award. Our chapter finished second in the Region, just a few points behind the West Virginia Chapter. Although Bill was not present, it was special to see Bill's father, George Jacoby accept awards for Bill.
New Orleans was a great time for all, and we look forward to another great CRC in Memphis next summer!
Our 50th Anniversary
Our 50th Anniversary will be observed this coming November, and we hope that you will save the date! Although he is stepping down as president, Bill Jacoby will continue to lead the 50th Committee, which has already been making plans for the program.
The event will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville. While the details are yet to be announced, we are planning a great social time, entertainment, food, and program. Incoming Society President Tom Phoenix has been confirmed for the meeting. We will have photos, memorabilia, and a multi-media program to share with all that attend.
The 50th Committee includes Bill Jacoby (Chair), Historian Alan Hasemeyer, Nancy McBee, Tom Pace, Jeff DeLong, and Jack Hopkins. They will be working through the summer on plans. Should you have have ideas, old photos, programs, or any other items of interest, please contact any person on the committee.
We look forward to seeing you in November!
